It is located on the Liberty Island of the New York Harbor designed by a French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi in 1886. It is also titled as the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Construction in France
It is true that the Statue of Liberty was constructed in Paris, France. When Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi completed sculpting head, He placed it in Paris World’s Fair in 1878.
The fair was visited by hundreds of people and its models was also placed for sale and around 250,000 francs was raised.
The arms of the Statue of Liberty were also designed by Bartholdi with the assistance of Viollet-le-Duc but He suddenly fell ill and died, the work was unfinished and the reason of His sudden death was never discovered.
Eventually Bartholdi took help of a skillful designer and builder Alexandre-Gustave Eiffel along structure engineer Maurice Koechlin who came up with innovative ideas to make the statue stronger. The project faced many issues such as working with metal and lack of funds to complete the project.
Gift from France
The event of handing over the Statue of Liberty was held with great arrangements. The event was held on October 28, 1886 and it was visited by the president Grover Cleveland. A parade was held on the morning in New York and it was watched by millions of people. The parade stared at 12:45 pm from the Madison Square and moved to Battery Park and finally to its destination.
The Statue of Liberty New York was placed on the Liberty Island and general public were not allowed at the place of dedication. And the only women permitted to travel to the island were Bartholdi's wife and de Lesseps's granddaughter because they were afraid that women might get injured between large crowds of people.
National Importance
The statue is a national symbol and appears on currencies and numerous places among which coins and stamps are the most prominent. Many people might not know that the picture of the statue also appeared on number plates.
Not only its image appears on many places but its name and torch are also used at many places such as New York Rangers of the National Hockey League and Women National Basketball Association.
